March 1st is Application Deadline for Henriquez Fund for International Programs

February 11, 2010

GREAT BARRINGTON, MA—The Youth World Awareness Program and The Alice and Richard Henriquez Funds of Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation are accepting applications through March 1. The funds support international travel, study or work by young people ages 14 to 22. Applicants must be residents of Berkshire County, MA; Columbia or northeast Dutchess County, NY or northwest Litchfield County, CT. Applications are available here or by calling 413.528.8039

Applications will be evaluated based on how the project will engage the applicant with young people in other countries, the opportunities it offers to learn new customs and lifestyles, and the applicant’s community service while abroad.

Richard Henriquez established the Alice and Richard Henriquez Memorial Fund in 1998 to “encourage the development of peace among nations and justice for all people by funding international experiences for young men and women in their intellectually formative years.” The success of the Henriquez Fund inspired Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation to establish the Youth World Awareness Program to raise additional funds to provide more grants.

Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation builds stronger communities and improves the quality of life for all residents of Berkshire County, MA; Columbia County and northeast Dutchess County, NY; and northwest Litchfield County, CT. Thanks to its generous donors, in 2009 Berkshire Taconic distributed nearly $7 million in scholarships and grants for programs in the arts and education, health and human services, and environmental protection. Berkshire Taconic is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization.
