Northeast Dutchess Fund Awards $22,000 in Grants to Twelve Nonprofit Groups

Great Barrington, MA—The Northeast Dutchess Fund announced today that it has awarded $22,000 in grants to 12 nonprofit groups. A fund of Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, the Northeast Dutchess Fund awards grants to nonprofit organizations serving Amenia, Clinton Corners, Dover Plains, Millbrook, Millerton, North East, Pine Plains, Stanford, Washington, Wassaic and Wingdale.
The fund awarded the following grants:
Art East: $500 to produce and distribute a brochure for its Artists’ Open Studio Tours.
Council on Addiction Prevention and Education: $1,500 for its Marathon Project, a 33- week innovative distance running program that pairs adult mentors with at-risk youth ages and aims to reduce childhood obesity, school drop-out rates, and substance abuse.
Dutchess Community Action Partnership: $2,000 for its Holiday Savings Program, which encourages low-income families to make monthly savings deposits, which are matched 1:1 up to $250, to further their economic self-sufficiency.
Dutchess County Historical Society: $1,000 for archival materials.
First Presbyterian Church, Amenia: $2,500 to continue and expand its English as a Second Language program for Hispanic/Latinos in the area.
Grace Smith House: $2,700 for furniture for the shelter, which serves for women and children in crisis.
Millbrook Early Childhood Education Center: $2,500 for a computer, scanner, and copier for marketing and communication materials to reach low-income families.
Millbrook Rotary Foundation: $500 for its annual New Years Eve program, a free cultural event that offers high quality professional music, theatrical performances, children’s book readings, and magicians, and is attended by 1,300-1,500 people.
Millerton Adopt-a-Family: $2,400 help provide families of limited means with warm winter clothing and toys for their children at Christmas.
Rural and Migrant Ministry: $2,500 for its two-week summer leadership program for middle school children from low-income rural and migrant families.
Susie Reizod Foundation: $1,400 to purchase new shoes for children in need.
Webutuck PTA: $2,500 for new playground equipment that will be accessible to physically challenged children and encourage all children to be more physically active.
A committee of local residents reviews applications to the fund and awards grants based on excellence of the proposed project or service, its impact on the organization or community, and the ability of the organization to carry out the project.
