March 15 Deadline for Region One Athletic Fund

February 22, 2010

GREAT BARRINGTON, MA—March 15 is the deadline for applications to the Region One Athletic Fund for programs and projects that support athletics in the region’s schools. Individuals and organizations are encouraged to apply for the grants, which range from $100 to $1,000. The fund, a fund of Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, is one of the six education enrichment funds comprising Litchfield County’s Region One Education Collaborative (TEC).

The Region One Athletic Fund was created to ensure that students of all ages have the opportunity to compete and excel in the sport or physical activity of their choice and to cultivate competitive teams. It supports programs that are over and above those normally funded by local, state and federal funding. These may include special coaching, summer training and camp programs, transportation to competitions or training programs, special movement classes to improve performance, master classes, coach training, equipment and uniform purchase, or even facility improvement.

A committee of school personnel and community members reviews applications based on excellence of the project, impact on the school community and ability of the applicant to carry out the project. More information and applications are available at the Region One schools and here.

Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation was founded in Salisbury, CT in 1987. Since that time, Berkshire Taconic has distributed over $1 5 million to benefit residents of the Northwest Corner of Connecticut through scholarships and grants for programs in the arts and education, health and human services, and environmental protection.
