Central Berkshire Fund
David Mixer, now a resident of Rhode Island, created the Central Berkshire Fund in 2001to support programs in the arts, education, environment, health and social services in his native Dalton and the surrounding hilltowns. David decided to establish the fund through Berkshire Taconic because he wanted to support the Central Berkshire towns but wanted help identifying the best ways to do so.
By creating an area fund, David was also able to rely on a committee of local residents, familiar with the issues and needs of the community, to review applications and award grants. In addition, creating an Area Fund allowed others to join him in building an endowed fund that would serve as a permanent community resource.
