Fund for Williamstown
Local residents created the Fund for Williamstown in 2006 to support new ideas, approaches and collaborations that continue Williamstown’s strong history of community improvement. In three months, 50 community members pledged to donate at least $5,000 over five year, with half the donations dedicated to grantmaking on a current basis and half to building the fund's endowment.
The fund welcomes grant applications from individuals and nonprofit organizations who bring innovative thinking to big issues and small ones. It encourages projects that create a more vibrant town that is responsive to the diverse needs of all of its residents.
A board of community members reviews applications and awards grants based on the merit of the proposed project or service, its impact on the organization or community, and the ability of the applicant to carry out the project.
Thanks to the generosity of its Founding 50 members, the Fund for Williamstown was able to distribute $27,500 in its first round of grantmaking in 2007.
