Neighbor–to–Neighbor Fund
Neighbor-to-Neighbor provides emergency one time assistance for local residents who are in economic distress. Neighbor-to-Neighbor makes small grants (generally around $500) to help those with overdue utilities, medical bills, short-term housing costs, and transportation problems. Checks are written to the vendor (landlord, utility company, pharmacy or mechanic) on behalf of the community member in need. The funds are not intended for long-term or ongoing assistance, but for strategic intervention to help achieve a measure of stability and avert further crises.
Neighbor-to-Neighbor continues Berkshire Taconic’s nearly 20 year tradition of providing support to individuals and families in dire straits. Neighbor-to-Neighbor raises thousands of dollars each year from neighbors wanting to help neighbors.
Here are a few stories:
An out of work contractor's electricity was shut of...
Neighbor-to-Neighbor paid to have it turned back on
and get him into financial literacy class.
A man, paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair, could not afford
a ramp to his home. Without it, he would have to leave his
disabled wife and enter a nursing home in order to receive the
medical care he needed. Neighbor-to-Neighbor covered the cost
of materials for the ramp and arranged for the labor to be
donated.
A single mother of two children was falling behind
on her car payments when her car broke down...
Neighbor-to-Neighbor negotiated with and paid the
repair shop, allowing her to continue to work and stay
on her feet.
