Press Release: Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation Tops $2 Million in Summer Grants, Including $496,786 in Scholarships (Dutchess County)

Sheffield, Mass. — The board of directors of Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation today announced the recipients of the second round of grantmaking for 2016. The foundation distributed a total of $430,378 in grants to individuals and nonprofits in the four-county region it serves, $496,786 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors, and grants totaling over $1.1 million from donors with charitable funds at the foundation.

In Dutchess County, the foundation awarded $87,375 in grants from the Northeast Dutchess Fund, an area fund serving the residents of Amenia, Clinton Corners, Dover Plains, Millbrook, Millerton, North East, Pine Plains, Stanford, Washington, Wassaic and Wingdale; $4,036 from Pine Plains’ Sustaining Education Enrichment and Development (SEED), one of Berkshire Taconic’s enrichment funds for area schools; and $9,300 in scholarships for graduating high school seniors.

Education and Enrichment: The Northeast Dutchess Fund and SEED Fund made education grants to eight organizations that provide enrichment programs, including: Dutchess Community College; North East Community Center; Stanford Free Library; Clinton Community Library; Bard College’s Center for Civic Engagement; Millbrook Early Childhood Development Center; Pine Plains Central School District; and Webutuck Central School District.  

Scholarships: Thomas J. Berlinghoff Scholarship Fund: Christopher Milano of Amenia, Undecided; Rhoda Lubalin Art Scholarship Fund: Jennifer Yang of Millerton, SUNY Delhi; Northeast Dutchess Scholarship Fund: Camron Greer of Amenia, American University, and Paul Thomas of Amenia, SUNY Albany; and Matthew D. Reagon Scholarship Fund: Camron Greer. 

Health and Human Services: The Northeast Dutchess Fund awarded seven grants to organizations that provide health and human services, including: Food of Life/Comida de Vida Food Pantry; Millerton Adopt-A-Family; Rebuilding Together Dutchess County’s home repair program; The Susie Reizod Foundation’s shoe donation program; Center of Compassion’s backpack program; First Presbyterian Church of Millerton’s free dinners; and Millbrook Rotary Foundation’s New Year’s Eve celebration.

Arts and Culture: The Northeast Dutchess Fund and SEED Fund awarded grants to six arts organizations and arts programs, including: NorthEast-Millerton Library, for its 2016 “Music in the Annex” concert series; Town of Amenia, for its dance program; Hudson Valley Shakespeare, for its acting residencies at Millbrook Middle and High schools; the Wassaic Project, for sound and lighting for the 2016 Summer Festival; Half Moon Theatre, for its theatre residency program for fifth-grade students; and Pine Plains Central School District for a visiting artist’s lecture series. 

Environment: The Northeast Dutchess Fund awarded a grant to Wassaic Community Farm to support its low-income, accessible farm stand in Dover.
