Press Release: Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation Awards $1.5 Million in Winter Grants Cycle (northwest Litchfield County)

Sheffield, Mass. — Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation today announced the recipients of its final round of grantmaking for 2016. The foundation distributed over $708,000 in grants to individuals, schools and nonprofits in the four-county region it serves, and grants totaling nearly $800,000 from donors with charitable funds at the foundation.
In northwest Litchfield County, the foundation awarded over $65,000 in grants.
Education and Enrichment: The Salisbury Central School Educational Endowment Fund awarded $18,097 to the SOAR enrichment program to support after-school programs and experimental programs to stimulate student creativity and expand learning. The Northwest Corner Fund designated $18,000 for two local nonprofits to participate in Berkshire Taconic’s 2017 Nonprofit Learning Program, an intensive training course on best practices in governance, management and fund development (selected organizations to be announced).
Arts and Culture: Musician Dylan Vadakin of Canaan, Conn., received $5,000 from the Martha Boschen Porter Fund to arrange a jazz ensemble performance of A Charlie Brown Christmas at the New Canaan Playhouse.
Health and Human Services: The Northwest Center for Family Services Fund awarded $4,972 to Housatonic Youth Service Bureau for its counseling services, and the W.O. Webb Fund granted $19,009 to two other Berkshire Taconic funds that support health care organizations.
