Press Release: Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation Awards $2.1 Million in Summer Grants Cycle, Including $455,444 in Scholarships (Litchfield)

Sheffield, Mass. — The Board of Directors of Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation today announced the recipients of the second round of grantmaking for 2015. The foundation distributed a total of $266,234 in grants to individuals and nonprofits and $445,444 in scholarships to high school, college and graduate school students in the four-county region it serves. Grants from donors with charitable funds at the foundation totaled $1.4 million.

In Litchfield County, the foundation awarded $8,620 from the Arts Fund for Region One, $7,800 from the Region One Athletic Fund, a $10,000 grant from the Northwest Corner Fund and $122,000 in scholarships that will support a total of six students.

Education and Enrichment: The Arts Fund for Region One awarded a total of 35 grants to students for a range of summer enrichment experiences: piano, violin and drum lessons; theater programs at Falls Village Children’s Theater, the Warner Theatre and the TriArts Sharon Playhouse; and camps for arts and writing. The Region One Athletic Fund awarded 23 students grants for a variety of sports camps, and provided three organizations—the GoodBrain Project, Bard College and Housatonic Valley Regional High School—support for fitness and sports programs. The Northwest Corner Fund awarded a $10,000 grant to the Salisbury Central School enrichment fund, or SOAR.

Buterbaugh Scholarship Fund: Taylor Dowd, Elms College; Teddy Lee Drumm Memorial Scholarship Fund for Sharon residents: Alexis Freudenberge, Champlain College; Timothy Haan, Undecided; Dana Tompkins, Western Connecticut State University; Ryan Heacox, Western New England College; and Maia Stickles, University of New Haven. The Margaret Derwin “Blue Sky” Scholarship (as previously announced) was awarded to Shelby Jacquier of Canaan.
