Press Release: Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation Awards $1.5 Million in Fall Grants Cycle (Columbia County)

Sheffield, Mass.— The board of directors of Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation today announced the recipients of the third round of grantmaking for 2015. The foundation distributed a total of $101,948 in grants to individuals and nonprofits, and grants from donors with charitable funds at the foundation totaled $1.4 million. 

In Columbia County, the foundation awarded grants from the Martha Boschen Porter Fund, which supports emerging artists and artists experiencing a significant change of direction in their work. Grants are meant to help them advance to the next level of their development. 

Grant recipients include: Miranda Barry of Hudson ($2,250) to present the show, “Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom” to Montgomery C. Smith Intermediate School; Isabel Barton of Hudson ($3,500) to produce a 30-minute film; Jerry Freedner of Valatie ($4,000) to assemble a photography project about the beauty of local farmland and the art of the farmer; and Allyson Strafella of Hudson ($3,000) to create large-scale landscape drawings using a custom-built typewriter.
