How to Apply to Derwin Scholarship

HOW TO APPLY: MARGARET DERWIN SCHOLARSHIP

Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation makes it easy for you to apply for a scholarship online. Please read the instructions below before beginning your application for the Margaret Derwin Scholarship.

Step 1: Tax return

  • Make a copy of your parent/guardian(s) most recent tax return.  

Step 2: Read the guidelines

Step 3: Create an account

  • Click the "Apply" button on the Margaret Derwin Scholarship guidelines page to visit our application system. It works well with all major browsers, though we recommend using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.
  • Click on “Create New Account” and select one login email address and password. Berkshire Taconic will communicate with you through this email address.
  • For additional assistance, watch this tutorial to learn how to set up your account. If you have questions regarding your account, email Brandon Williams or call him at 413.229.0370 x 115.

Step 4: Complete Your Scholarship Application

  • Write an essay outlining how you feel you meet the profile and criteria of the Margaret Derwin Scholarship.  
  • Complete all fields of the application.
  • You do not have to finish all at once, but be sure to click on “Save Your Work” often and before exiting. After 90 minutes of inactivity, you will automatically be logged out to keep your information secure.
  • To continue to work on your application another time, log in again and then click “Edit.”

Step 5: Complete Your Financial Application

  • Click on "Apply" in the left-hand navigation bar of our application system and choose the Margaret Derwin Scholarship Financial Application, which is also due on January 28. Both applications must be submitted to be considered for the scholarship.

Step 6: Submit Both Applications

  • When all fields are complete, click “Submit.”

Step 7: Berkshire Taconic Will Review Your Application

  • Your application is reviewed by the Margaret Derwin Scholarship advisory committee. During this process, our staff may contact you for more information.  
  • The committee will interview finalists. Be prepared to speak to why you are the ideal candidate for the Margaret Derwin Scholarship.

Step 8: Final Decisions Are Made

  • Decisions are generally made within 8 to 12 weeks of the application deadline and are sent via email.
