NED Awards Grants to 11 Northeast Dutchess Nonprofits

Great Barrington, MA—The Northeast Dutchess Fund (NED) announced that it has awarded $22,470 in grants to 11 nonprofit groups that provide programs and services in northeast Dutchess County. The grants will support projects ranging from purchasing software for high school students and environmental education programs to providing cribs for a shelter for women and children. NED, a fund of Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, awards grants to nonprofit or civic groups that enhance the quality of life in Amenia, Clinton Corners, Dover Plains, Millbrook, Millerton, North East, Pine Plains, Stanford, Washington, Wassaic and Wingdale. .
“NED’s grants address a broad spectrum of needs in our community,” said Nancy Stahl, the fund’s chairperson.
NED awarded the following grants:
Amenia Free Library: $700 for Music Together, an early childhood music program.
Dover Middle High School: $3,000 for reading software that will improve the reading skills of seventh and eighth grade students.
Dutchess Day School: $1,000 for display panels to exhibit students’ work in various locations throughout Dutchess County.
First Presbyterian Church of Millerton: $3,500 to continue and expand its English as a Second Language program.
Grace Smith House: $960 for new cribs that will provide safe and secure sleeping spaces for young children at the North East shelter for women and children.
Housatonic Valley Association: $2,000 for Swamp River and You, a new program that will inventory the Swamp River shoreline and restore a section of the river.
Millbrook Central School District: $2,000 for the School of Belonging, a character education program that teaches leadership, mediation and mentoring skills, bullying prevention, and diversity awareness.
Rural and Migrant Ministry: $3,000 for a summer leadership program for low- income rural and migrant families.
St. Francis Health Care: $1,600 toward anticoagulation systems that will help patients on medication that requiring monitoring and therapeutic doses.
Susie Reizod Foundation: $1,110 for new shoes for children in need.
United Methodist Church of Pine Plains: $3,600 for renovations to the Fellowship Hall.
A committee of local residents reviews applications and awards grants based on excellence of the proposed project or service, its impact on the organization or community, and the ability of the organization to carry out the project.
