July 15 Is Application Deadline for Region One Athletic Fund
July 1, 2008
GREAT BARRINGTON, MA—July 15 is the deadline for applications to the Region One Athletic Fund for programs and projects that support athletics in the region’s schools. Individuals and organizations are encouraged to apply for grants, which range from $100 to $1,000. The fund is one of the six education enrichment funds comprising Litchfield County’s Region One Education Collaborative (TEC) and is an endowment of Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.
The Region One Athletic Fund was created to ensure that students of all ages have the opportunity to compete and excel in the sport or physical activity of their choice and to cultivate competitive teams. It supports a variety of programs that are over and above those normally funded by local, state and federal funding. These may include special coaching, summer training and camp programs, transportation to competitions or training programs, special movement classes to improve performance, master classes, coach training, equipment and uniform purchase, or even facility improvement.
Recent grants include $300 to the Alpine Ski Team for a ski race clinic, $590 to the Hoosy Hoops program, and $500 for team training packages for the Northwest Orioles.
A committee of school personnel and community members will review applications based on excellence of the project, impact on the school community and ability of the applicant to carry out the project.
Applicants will be informed of The Region One Athletic Fund and Berkshire Taconic’s decision within six weeks of the deadline date. More information and applications are available at each Region One school and www.berkshiretaconic.org/grantseekers.
Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation builds stronger communities and improves the quality of life for all residents in the region it serves: Berkshire County, MA; Columbia County and northeast Dutchess County, NY; and northwest Litchfield County, CT. Founded in 1987, Berkshire Taconic currently has over 500 funds and manages more than $86 million in assets. Each year, it distributes more than $7 million through grants and scholarships, helping thousands of donors achieve their philanthropic goal and hundreds of nonprofits carry on their good work.
