Fall 2010 Seminars in Nonprofit Excellence

This fall, Berkshire Taconic’s Center for Nonprofit Excellence focuses on the importance our local, state, regional and federal funders and government entities place on reporting. Now more than ever, organizations moving forward as the strongest leaders in their fields must make use of best practices: in filing the IRS Form 990, improving program outcome results and measurements and, for Massachusetts nonprofits, following new WISP requirements that now regulate our privacy policies.

Please check back soon as additional classes are added to the Center for Nonprofit Excellence Fall 2010 seminar series.

Fall 2010 Seminars Series

Don’t Panic! Understanding the New IRS Filing Requirements for Small Organizations Tuesday, October 5, 2010 - 1 to 2:30 p.m.

There are many practical ramifications of the annual Forms 990/990–EZ and companion e–postcard (Form 990–N) filing requirements. Failure to file the latter, for those whose gross receipts fall below the 990/990–EZ thresholds, ultimately results in loss of tax–exemption and the need to file an exemption application even if one had not been required before. This webinar, by noted Form 990 instructor and exempt organization tax law practitioner Eve Rose Borenstein, will explore the impact of these filing mandates on small organizations.

Topics to be covered include:

  • What to do if you failed to file a Form 990 in the 2007, 2008, or 2009 tax years
  • The basis of tax exemption and when application to the IRS is not required
  • How/when organizations may use the July 2010 voluntary compliance program
  • Planning annual Form 990, 990–EZ and 990–N compliance capacity

The IRS has extended the filing deadline to October 15, 2010 for those organizations that have failed to file in the last three tax years. Participants in this webinar can expect to gain the information they need to file the Form 990–N before the deadline.

Pre–registration is required. Register online or, for more information, call 413.229.0370.
