Nonprofit Services - Receive Nonprofits & Individuals - Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation

Nonprofits in the Berkshire Taconic region help build stronger communities and drive local economies. As a primary resource for the sector, Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation is focused on strengthening nonprofit leadership and stewarding nonprofit resources through a variety of fund options.

Leadership Development

Through its Center for Nonprofit Excellence, Berkshire Taconic helps nonprofits build more secure futures for themselves and their communities by providing trainings and professional development. The CNE is overseen by an advisory board made up of experts and community leaders in nonprofit management.

For Board Members

The biannual Board Leadership Forum is the region's only daylong training and networking opportunity exclusively for nonprofit board members and their executive directors, featuring workshops by leading experts on the latest trends in the field. The inaugural event was held in October 2018. It will return in 2020.

BTCF will offer two Board Leadership Seminars for regional board members in 2019:

  • Attendees learned how to make smart fundraising decisions on May 10 in Lakeville, Conn., with nationally respected consultant and author Gayle L. Gifford.
  • Kenya Rutland will be back by popular demand to lead a Board Leadership Seminar on Oct. 11 at Columbia-Greene Community College. Check back for details soon.

Board chairs or vice chairs can apply for a scholarship to attend Governing for Nonprofit Excellence, a four-day executive education program at Harvard Business School.

For Executive Directors

Every year, BTCF provides scholarships to two Harvard Business School executive education programs: Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management and Performance Measurement for Effective Management of Nonprofit Organizations.

The Nonprofit Learning Program (which offers training and consultation in nonprofit governance, management and fund development) and the Nonprofit Leadership Institute (which builds leadership and management skills through a collaborative peer-learning program) are held in alternating years.

Endowment Building

BTCF can help build nonprofit endowments or reserve funds in a several ways:

Nonprofit Agency Funds

BTCF has a world-class investment portfolio with returns in the top quartile among community foundations nationwide. In order to make this resource accessible to our region’s nonprofits, the foundation invites organizations to open a nonprofit agency fund.

Designated Funds

We can help your donors establish designated funds for your organization that will provide a steady income stream.

Planned Giving

Berkshire Taconic can also work with donors who wish to give to your organization in their estate plan or will. We can help them establish a charitable remainder trust, arrange for a gift of real estate or other estate planning vehicle.
